The Chicago Black Sox could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Salvador Montáñez into a win. Instead, the Long Beach Surfers prevailed, 5-3. Montáñez threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Reliever Seth Nagaswamy picked up the win. His record improves to 1-1. Salvador Montáñez, who is tied for 3rd in the FL in complete games with 1, took the loss. Quirke Roddis recorded the save for Long Beach, his 7th of the season.
The Surfers got a big at-bat from left fielder Pedro Vargas. For the game, Vargas was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Long Beach a 2-0 lead.
Vargas attributed the win to "everyone pulling their weight."
Long Beach now sports a record of 26-39.
