Deleón Strokes 5 Hits
|
After a 5-hit effort to lead Western Europe's 28-10 victory over the Asia Suns, second baseman Carlos Deleón told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the International Finishing Consortium-level is really something special."
The 18-year-old player earned his accolades at Suns Park with a spectacular 5-for-6 game against the Suns.
"His swing is getting there," said Avengers skipper Alfonso Pagán, who spoke glowingly of Deleón after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Carlos did that to perfection."
Carlos Deleón doubled in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Pedro Díaz in the 2nd, walked in a run in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
In 21 games this season, Deleón has compiled a .456 batting average with 47 hits and 3 home runs. He has also scored 47 times and knocked in 29 runs.
