Sakaguchi Tames Gold, 4-0
|
Before the game, Ieyasu Sakaguchi said he liked his chances. His instincts proved to be right. In a superb outing at Las Alturas Park, the Toppers pitcher blanked the Aruba Gold, 4-0.
"I just had a feeling it was going to be my day," Sakaguchi said in the clubhouse afterward. "My control was awesome. I could throw my sinker even when I was behind in the count."
The La Paz starter held Aruba scoreless, giving up 7 hits while registering 5 strikeouts and issuing no walks.
"We didn't have very many good at-bats," Gold manager Terry Schultz said in a postgame interview. "When that happens, you usually lose."
This year, Sakaguchi has 5 relief appearances with no saves, 1-2 season record and a 2.63 ERA. He has hurled 27.1 innings, given up 23 hits, struck out 17 and walked 10. Opposing clubs have batted .219 against the La Paz reliever.
