Hawaii beat Yellow Springs on the strength of starting pitcher Daniel Thornton's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 5-2. The winning pitcher was Thornton, now 1-5. He tossed 5 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6. Cale Cote notched his 2nd save of the season.
Hawaii took a 5-2 lead on Vicente Martínez's 26th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Martínez hit in the top of the ninth, left Yellow Springs pitcher Hirohisa Tanaka visibly frustrated.
Hawaii manager Amato Cruz was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The 4th-place Nine now sit at 37-33.
