Pearls Suffer Blowout Loss to Gold
|
The Johannesburg Gold defeated the Tokyo Pearls, 12-1. Right Fielder Adam MacDonald deserved a large share of the credit. MacDonald went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for the Gold. Kiminobu Seki got the win, improving to 1-2. He worked 6 innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Tokyo now has a record of 9-3.
Gerek Radwanski had a big 2-run double for the Gold in the top of the first inning. With Johannesburg leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Afzul Chishti, who finished 4th in the GBC in innings pitched with 200.0 in 2059, and swatted a double to left. It was his 1st double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Gold ahead, 4-0.
Said Tokyo manager Bernie Bagshaw after the blowout loss: "They did pretty much every facet of the game better than we did and that's why we lost."
