Fighting Centaurs Earn Clutch Win, 2-1
|
Moscow wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher EwungaGoiba Ghera, falling to the Athens Fighting Centaurs, 2-1. Ghera threw 8.0 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. The win went to Carlos Torres in relief. His record improves to 1-0. EwungaGoiba Ghera took the loss. José Díaz closed out the game, earning his 2nd save.
Had Njoroge Akins not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Akins hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Fighting Centaurs.
"We leaned on our pitching tonight," Akins said.
The Fighting Centaurs are off to a tough start, getting just their 4th win in 12 games.
