Akers, Kernels Stop Surfers, 2-0
|
In a low-scoring contest between the Des Moines Kernels and the Long Beach Surfers, Tommy Akers, who is a two-time All-Star, proved to be the difference. The Des Moines right-hander earned props for his performance in the 2-0 Kernels win. The save was credited to Alonso González, his 6th. Long Beach's current losing streak has reached 5 games.
The Surfers had trouble solving Akers, who surrendered no runs on 6 hits over 8.1 innings.
"I like what I saw today," said Des Moines manager Mel Jenkins, "and I can't wait to get back out there and do it again."
