Pearls Beaten By Sharks, 5-3
|
The first-place Sydney Sharks took on the Tokyo Pearls in front of a spirited crowd.
The Sydney Sharks knocked off the Tokyo Pearls, 5-3, in GBC AfSAmOc action at Blacktown International Sportspark. Sydney pitcher and Hammond, Louisiana, native Ryan Cline had an outstanding performance. Chung Chan closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
The Pearls had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Sharks going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old third baseman Gonzalo Morales came to the plate. Morales hit a 2-run home run on a 1-1 curveball from Tokyo hurler Dani Martínez. It was Morales's 2nd home run of the year.
"We ground out the win," said Cline. "That's all that matters."
The Sharks, now 13-6, have been red hot.
