Great Stroke: Ávila Gets 5 Hits
|
A jubilant Luis Ávila joined the postgame press conference at The Holy Land to offer some unusual words of encouragement -- for the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers pitching staff he had just vanquished.
"It may not have looked like it," said the Athens Fighting Centaurs first baseman, "but I saw some awful good pitches today. If luck hadn't been on my side it might have turned out a lot different."
That would not have been the conclusion of anyone who saw his dominant 5-for-5 hitting performance, which led to the 5-2 Fighting Centaurs win.
"He made it look easy," said Alfredo Cuellar, manager of the Hebrew Hammers. "We never figured out what to do with him. Obviously."
Luis Ávila singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Declan Naylor in the 8th and singled in the 9th.
Thus far this year, Ávila has hit .282 with 2 home runs and 11 RBIs.
