Pearls Run Win Streak to 10
|
The Tokyo Pearls took Jerusalem pitcher Leonard Squillari's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Manama Fields. The final score had Tokyo getting past the Hebrew Hammers, 2-1. Squillari went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs, striking out 6. Barry Short went 6 innings for Tokyo to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 1 run. He scattered 5 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 4. His record improves to 4-2. The loss drops Jerusalem to 18-16.
The Hebrew Hammers had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Pearls going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the former first round draft pick José Espinoza came to the plate. Espinoza hit a run-scoring double on a 3-1 curveball from Jerusalem hurler Leonard Squillari. It was Espinoza's 7th double of the year.
"I'm trying to keep it simple," said Espinoza. "Just do my job."
