Spuds Prevail, 6-5, Over Calgary
|
Getting offensive support from Tsutomu Yamauchi, the Boise Spuds topped the Calgary Pioneers, 6-5. Yamauchi went 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Spuds. The winning pitcher was Doug Eckhoff. His record now stands at 8-11. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits for the Spuds. Brian Groves converted his 6th save in 10 tries.
With Boise leading 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh, Yamauchi hit a 2-run single off Calgary hurler Mitch Bond. It was the 56th hit of the season for Yamauchi and put his team ahead, 6-3.
"We found a way to get it done," Yamauchi said.
Boise has won 3 straight, while Calgary has lost 3 in a row.
