Victory Takes Tropics to 79-64
|
The Hawaii Tropics took Vancouver pitcher Qing-lai Ou-yang's best shot and still were able to claim a win at ‘Iolani Palace. The final score had Hawaii getting past the Mounties, 3-2. Ou-yang went 6.1 innings and allowed 3 runs, striking out 2. Bob Westbrooks got the save, his 17th in 24 chances. The Tropics are now 79-64.
Armando Medina had a big 3-run home run for the Tropics in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Hawaii trailing 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a sinker from Qing-lai Ou-yang, who is tied for 9th in the FL in strikeouts with 132, and swatted a home run to center. It was his 15th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Tropics ahead, 3-1.
"We put some tough at-bats on some tough pitches," said Hawaii manager Amato Cruz.
