The timely hitting of Eric Owens helped the Hawaii Tropics down the Sacramento Mad Popes, 6-4. Owens went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Tropics. Utkan Göçek picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 10-9. Fernando Rodríguez suffered the loss. Troy Reynolds got the save, the 5th for him this season.

Hawaii took a 6-4 lead on Jeff Appleton's 14th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Appleton hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Sacramento pitcher Fernando Rodríguez visibly frustrated.

"Winning never gets dull," said Appleton.

Hawaii, now 65-79, holds down 7th place in the Frick League Pacific Division.
