Bears Collect 9-3 Win Over Surfers
|
The San Fernando Bears beat the Long Beach Surfers, 9-3, at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium. Frank Jardine, in particular, was impressive. He went 1-4 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Abban Layar, now 5-5, was credited with the win in 1.1 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 1 and walking 0. The win lifted the San Fernando record to 81-64.
The game was all tied up in the top of the 19th, until Jardine delivered big-time for San Fernando, stroking a dramatic 3-run home run off Arnold Richmond. The game-changing hit put the Bears on top, 6-3.
"We came out with clear minds and swung the bats well," said San Fernando manager Gonzalo Escobar.
