Aztecs Topple Shredders with Late Rally
|
The Mexico City Aztecs topped the Austin Shredders, 3-2, in Johnson League action at Quetzalcoatl Dome. The game was highlighted by the performance of Mexico City pitcher Jesús Fox. The win belonged to Mike Dykstra in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Alfonso Costello took the loss for Austin. The Aztecs saw their win-loss record go to 68-78. At the same time, the Shredders fell to 73-72.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 27-year old first baseman Juan Núñez had a chance to be the hero. Austin pitcher Glenn Hargrove wanted to foil that plan. But with one out, Núñez drew a walk, driving in 1 run. The Aztecs had themselves a thrilling win.
"Sometimes a win comes easy," Fox told the Mexico City Today. "And sometimes you have to scratch and claw."
