River Monsters Come Up Short at Madison, 9-8
|
The Twin Cities River Monsters got a sterling performance from left fielder Héctor García, but the Madison Wolves still prevailed, 9-8. García went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Gustavo Ayala picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 11-1. Jerry Stone, who is tied for 7th in the FL in quality starts with 17, was tagged with the loss. With the victory, the Wolves record stands at 64-82.
Mike Winchester had a big bases-clearing double for the Wolves in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Madison leading 5-4 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from 34-year old left-handed pitcher Jorge Quiñones and swatted a double to right. It was his 11th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Wolves ahead, 8-4.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Winchester.
