Swamp Foxes Drop Gamblers, 2-1, with Late Score

The Atlantic City Gamblers got a superb performance from pitcher Dewey McKim. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Cape Fear. The Swamp Foxes won the game, 2-1. McKim threw 5.2 innings of shutout ball. Kalaila Cobar, 5-9, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Cape Fear is last in the Johnson League Atlantic Division with a record of 67-80.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Octávio Martínez? The three-time All-Star Martínez stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Cape Fear up, 2-1. For the game, he was 3 for 4, including 1 double and 2 singles.
"I'm proud of the way we took care of business and got the 'W' today," Martínez told the Cape Fear Herald. "Whatever it takes."
