Hustlers Stumble, Lose to Talons
The first-place Phoenix Talons picked up another win.

The Phoenix Talons beat the Las Vegas Hustlers, 10-3. Phoenix pitcher and Hesperia, California, native Doug Eckhoff led the way. Eckhoff, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 6.1 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 5 and giving up 1 walk.

Mas'ud bin Salah al Din had a big grand slam home run for the Talons in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Phoenix leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he sized up a changeup from 32-year old right-handed pitcher Jim Fleming and punished it. The result was his 21st home run of the season, which put the Talons on top, 6-1.

"I was hoping to make good contact," said bin Salah al Din. "I wasn't trying to knock the snot out of it."

Phoenix leads the Johnson League Frontier Division by 7 games.
