Kernels Get Past Twin Cities for 2-1 Win
The Des Moines Kernels picked up a win at Kid Krauss's Kum & Go Kourtyard, knocking off the Twin Cities River Monsters, 2-1. Starting pitcher Tommy Akers played a key role in the triumph. With the win, Des Moines pushed its record to 88-60.

The decisive blow was delivered by Carlos Rodríguez in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a solo home run off 22-year old right-handed pitcher Jorge Durán to win the game for Des Moines. The home crowd went nuts.

Akers told a Des Moines Daily reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
