The Sacramento Mad Popes could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Mario Reyes into a win. Instead, the Hawaii Tropics prevailed, 5-3. Reyes threw 7.0 innings of 5-hit ball. The win boosted Hawaii to 86-63.

Hawaii took a 3-2 lead on Carlos Schumann's 39th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Schumann hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Sacramento pitcher Don Jordan visibly frustrated.

Schumann called winning a team effort. "It's not the same guy every time," he said. "It's the sum of the parts."
