The Valencia Stars got a good effort from starter Sam MacPherson in defeating the Hawaii Tropics at ‘Iolani Palace. The final score was 3-2. In 6.2 innings, MacPherson surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Dave Furman, credited with the save, is now 29 for 34 in save opportunities.
Valencia used the hitting of Bradley Russel to pick up the win. The catcher clubbed a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Stars on top, 3-1. For the game, Russel had 1 home run and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
"Sam kept his poise and got the job done," said Valencia manager Roberto Solís. "He was outstanding."
