Valencia second baseman Sumiteru Okubo helped his team beat the Portland Lumberjacks, 5-4. Okubo went 3 for 4 for the Stars. Qing-lai Ou-yang claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3.2 innings. His record stands at 2-1. The last-place Stars have a record of 54-99.

Had Juan McCurry not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, McCurry hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Stars.

"It was a good effort all around," said Okubo.
