The Charlotte Flyers faced a tough opponent in New Orleans pitcher Ed Smith, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Commanders Palace by a final score of 7-4 in 12 innings. Smith went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs. Charlotte reliever Wayne Lambert picked up the win to move to 1-0. Joe Shaw suffered the loss. Tsuyoshi Mori closed it out for his 3rd save.

Jorge Trujillo came through with a big-time hit for Charlotte. The left fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the 12th inning to give his team the lead, 7-4. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"The fans pay the tickets and help us do what we do, so we like to put on a show for them," Trujillo told the Charlotte Citizen.

The slumping Crawdads have lost 6 straight.
