Gold Improve to 23-21 with 6-3 Win
|
The skies opened up and the rain fell at Golden Palace.
Johannesburg first baseman Frank Fillinger was instrumental in helping the Gold triumph, 6-3, over the Cairo Pharaohs. Fillinger went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Max Dawe picked up the win, lifting his record to 4-2 on the season. He struck out 3 and walked 1 in 6 innings, while yielding 3 runs.
The Gold got a big at-bat from right fielder George McCoy. For the game, McCoy went 1-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 11th double of the season gave Johannesburg a 2-0 lead.
Fillinger told a Johannesburg Observer reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
Johannesburg currently is in second place in the GBC AfSAmOc at 23-21.
