Pioneers Best Talons in Pitching Duel
|
In a tension-filled contest between the Calgary Pioneers and the Phoenix Talons, pitcher Nalany Ahotaein was superb. The Calgary right-hander, who leads the JL with a 1.04 WHIP, spearheaded his team's 2-0 win. The first-place Pioneers sport a record of 87-70.
Ollie Long, who finished 2nd in the JL in batting average with .348 in 2059, took Phoenix hurler Ernesto Juárez deep in the bottom of the first. His 2-run home run put the Pioneers on top, 2-0. In all, Long had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 3.
"Nalany was hitting his spots and everything had life," said Calgary manager Tony Franco.
