Gold Lose to Thunder Bears in Walk-Off
|
The home crowd was treated to a thrilling, walk-off win.
In a tight contest at Bears Den, the Moscow Thunder Bears edged the Johannesburg Gold by the score of 5-4. Moscow designated hitter Rajko Lovre, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Moscow reliever Patrick Whitlock picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Rob Anthony was saddled with the loss.
Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 34-year old third baseman Ryobe Watanabe had a real shot to win the game. Johannesburg pitcher Rob Anthony was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Watanabe hit a run-scoring single. The Thunder Bears had a walk-off triumph.
"What a buzz," said Watanabe after it was over.
The Thunder Bears bumped their record to 26-24 with this latest triumph.
