Gold Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Monarchs, 5-3
|
The Johannesburg Gold stopped the London Monarchs, 5-3, behind an impressive performance from Héctor Vidro. The 26-year old catcher made life miserable for London pitching. He was 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Johannesburg's record now stands at 38-24, placing them second in the GBC AfSAmOc.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Vidro hit a fastball from Snicker O'Connolly for a 2-run home run. The Gold, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This team is real focused right now," said Johannesburg manager Vic Mills.
