Pearls Zip Past Gold, 6-1
|
Tokyo starter Jacome Kretzchner kept the Johannesburg offense from doing much damage. The right-hander leaned on his curveball in leading the Pearls to a 6-1 win. Kretzchner, now 2-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 4, walking 1, and allowing no runs. With the win, Tokyo upped its record to 34-31.
Helmut Grün came through for Tokyo when he hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the first. With the bases loaded, he hit a two-strike fastball to center field, staking his team to a 1-0 lead.
Said losing manager Alberto Sánchez: "The at-bats, obviously, needed to be better."
