Pilots Dispatch Gold, 10-1
|
The Sao Paulo Pilots defeated the Johannesburg Gold, 10-1, at Ballpark of Bucharest. Shamim Montazeri was one of the standouts for Sao Paulo. His 3 hits included 2 singles and 1 triple -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 2 he knocked in. Amaka Zev earned the save for Sao Paulo, his 1st of the year. The third-place Pilots go to 35-33.
Pedro Rocha had a big 3-run home run for the Pilots in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Sao Paulo leading 2-1 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he sized up a cutter from Jonathan Bryant, who is tied for 5th in the GBC ASAO with a 1.22 WHIP, and punished it. The result was his 2nd home run of the season, which put the Pilots on top, 5-1.
Johannesburg manager Vic Mills called the blowout loss "not what we had in mind."
