Portland Lumberjacks pitcher Mauro Esperanda was in top form, leading his team past the Sacramento Mad Popes, 5-0. Esperanda, now 9-8, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 0, and allowing no runs. Jim Thompson earned save number 13 this season.

Portland took a 2-0 lead on Farid bin Mubarak's 2nd home run of the season. The solo home run, which bin Mubarak hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Sacramento pitcher Von Alejo visibly frustrated.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Portland manager Mons Raider.
