Zombies Fall Short, 4-3, at Boise
|
Jacksonville got a decent performance from pitcher Dan Voelzke, but it wasn't enough to beat the Boise Spuds. Boise won the F. Nephi Grigg Memorial Stadium contest, 4-3. Voelzke threw 7.0 innings of 4-hit ball for the losing team. Mario Santos collected save number 11. The Zombies, now 38-41, have lost 5 in a row.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Bill Kuhn came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Jacksonville pitcher Juan Fernández, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Boise on top, 4-3.
"I really like what we did out there today," Kuhn said after the game.
