|
The Tokyo Pearls topped the Sydney Sharks, 4-1, in Global Baseball Consortium action at Manama Fields. The standout performance belonged to Tokyo pitcher and Xinxiang, China, native Yue-jiu Lai. In 5 innings, Lai surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Picking up the save was Max Birstall. He's now 3 for 5 in save chances.
Tokyo took a 4-1 lead on Nelson Dyer's 9th double of the season. The 2-run double, which Dyer hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Sydney pitcher Ryan Cline visibly frustrated.
"Yue-jiu was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Tokyo manager Tiljad Mwarania.
Tokyo leads the GBC EurAsia Division by 4½ games.
