The London Monarchs defeated the Cairo Pharaohs, 3-2, in Global Baseball Consortium action at Pyramid Park. London pitcher Román Rodríguez had a standout performance. In 7 innings, Rodríguez surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Ron McLeish was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 32 of 38 save opportunities.
Thomas Hohenwart came through with a big-time hit for London. The center fielder smacked a 3-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to give his team the lead, 3-2. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"Against this team here, fangs out late in the game, it's nice to beat them," said London skipper Jack Gulliver.
London, at 65-73, occupies 4th place in the GBC EurAsia Division.
