Getting a good performance from right fielder Norio Yoshida, the Sacramento Mad Popes defeated the Chicago Black Sox, 13-4. Yoshida was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Mad Popes. Don Jordan picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-3. He struck out 5 in 5.1 innings. The win elevated the Mad Popes to 48-33.

The game was on the line with two out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Dave Cain didn't flinch. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Chicago trailing 6-4, Cain retired Mahir bin Sa'id to end the threat. "Nothing to it," said Cain, with a wink.
