Fighting Centaurs Grind Out 2-0 Win
|
The Johannesburg Gold got a superb performance from pitcher Jorge Sandoval. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Athens. The Fighting Centaurs won the game, 2-0. Sandoval threw 7.0 innings of 6-hit ball. Athens reliever Edward Crutcher picked up the win, upping his record to 16-6. Jorge Sandoval absorbed the loss. Carlos Torres closed the door for Athens, picking up his 5th save of the year.
The Fighting Centaurs got a big at-bat from third baseman Augusto Vargas. For the game, Vargas was 1-4 with a double. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Athens a 1-0 lead.
"We've got to get out of this funk," said Johannesburg manager Alberto Sánchez.
This loss makes it 7 in a row for Johannesburg.
