Hebrew Hammers Suffer 3-2 Road Loss
|
The Tokyo Pearls picked up a win at Manama Fields, downing the Jerusalem Hebrew Hammers, 3-2. On the mound for Tokyo was right-hander Afzul Chishti, who played a pivotal role in the win. Chishti yielded 2 runs over 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 5 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8. His record improves to 11-7. Earning the save was Rodney Keeley. He's now cashed in 5 of 8 save opportunities.
The Hebrew Hammers had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Pearls going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Matthew Woods came to the plate. Woods hit a solo home run on a full count curveball from Jerusalem hurler Ed Noble. It was Woods's 33rd home run of the year.
"Afzul's stuff looked really, really crisp," said Tiljad Mwarania, the Pearls manager.
The first-place Pearls have won 5 in a row.
