Gold Earn 3-2 Home Win
|
The Johannesburg Gold converted a terrific effort from starter Jorge Sandoval into a win over the Tokyo Pearls at Golden Palace. The Gold won the game by a final score of 3-2. Sandoval, the winner, moves to 11-11. He threw 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 2 and giving up 2 walks. Johannesburg, at 68-77, occupies 4th place in the GBC AfSAmOc Division.
The Gold got a big at-bat from left fielder António Román. For the game, Román went 1-2 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 11th home run of the season gave Johannesburg a 3-2 lead.
"Jorge -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Gold manager Alberto Sánchez. "He was the key to us winning."
