Pearls Deal Fighting Centaurs 4-1 Defeat
|
Athens got a decent performance from pitcher José Díaz, but it wasn't enough to beat the Tokyo Pearls. Tokyo won the Piraeus Park contest, 4-1. Díaz threw 5.2 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. Yue-jiu Lai earned the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3.1 innings. His record is now 4-1. Tye Whitford converted his 14th save in 16 tries.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Andy Daly? The Tokyo left fielder had a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put the Pearls on top, 2-0. For the game, Daly had 1 double and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
Daly called the win "a team effort."
Tokyo, at 89-64, is 7½ games up in the GBC EurAsia Division.
