Fans brought energy and enthusiasm to the Portland Lumberjacks home opener. Murali Patachli started for the home team against Kinzo Iwamoto for the Hawaii Tropics. The Lumberjacks were unable to reward the home crowd with a win. The final score was 7-0, Hawaii. José Ordóñez, though, was impressive. Kinzo Iwamoto went 6.1 innings for Hawaii to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with no runs. He scattered 5 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record improves to 1-0.
Carlos Schumann had a big 2-run home run for the Tropics in the top of the second inning. With Hawaii leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a curveball from Murali Patachli, who finished 2nd in the FL in ERA with 2.85 in 2059, and punished it. The result was his 1st home run of the season, which put the Tropics on top, 3-0.
"Winning is always a team effort," Schumann said after the game.
