The exploits of first baseman Carl McLeod helped the Des Moines Kernels defeat the Vancouver Mounties, 7-2. McLeod went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. At 51-38, the Kernels are currently second in the Frick League Heartland Division.

There was more than one reason the Kernels beat the Mounties, but McLeod's big at-bat in the top of the third was an important factor. He staked his team to a 2-1 lead when he hit a run-scoring single.

Said losing manager Hung-k'uei Cui: "It's very easy to sit in an ivory tower and critique the pitching, but the bottom line is we need to score runs."
