Nine Use Late Surge to Win
|
Yellow Springs and Long Beach got after it at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium.
The Yellow Springs Nine took Long Beach pitcher Greg Jackson's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Vito Costantino Memorial Stadium. The final score had Yellow Springs getting past the Surfers, 7-3. Jackson went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run, striking out 5. Dane Colclough, now 5-1, was credited with the win in 1.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Jesús Ríos recorded the save, making him 22 for 25.
Yellow Springs used the timely hitting of Roberto Gabriel to capture the win. The designated hitter stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Nine on top, 7-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Today was a lot of fun," said Gabriel.
The 5th-place Nine are 42-48.
