Valencia Wins, 7-3, in Extra Innings
|
The Valencia Stars clipped the Madison Wolves, 7-3, in 13 innings at Shotz Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Valencia pitcher and Trois-Rivières, Canada, native Alvin Anstey. The win went to Rashid Umrani in relief. His record improves to 3-1. Pedro Juárez took the loss. The Stars go to 43-53, putting them 6th in the Frick League Pacific Division.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Irfan Umayr came to bat in the top of the 13th. Facing Madison pitcher Wesley Turner, he hit a 0-2 forkball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Valencia on top, 5-3.
"We have a lot of confidence in Alvin," said Valencia manager Roberto Solís.
