The New Orleans Crawdads did just enough to sneak past the Boise Spuds, 4-3, at The Commanders Palace. New Orleans pitcher Juan De La Cruz, in particular, had a standout performance. New Orleans has now won 3 straight, while the Spuds have lost 4 in a row.
The Spuds had been locked in a 3-3 tie with the Crawdads going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old left fielder Peter Mitchell came to the plate. Mitchell hit a run-scoring double on a 1-2 curveball from Boise hurler Niegloslaw Woywitka. It was Mitchell's 22nd double of the year.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Boise manager Mario Contreras said, following the tough loss.
