Gold Pick Up 4-1 Road Win Over Cairo
|
Starting pitcher Marshall Taylor did his part in helping the Johannesburg Gold thwart the Cairo Pharaohs, 4-1. Taylor, now 3-1, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 6, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Johannesburg bumps their record to 85-69 with the win.
Johannesburg won the game in part because of César Román. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Gold ahead, 3-0. For the game, Román had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"If we play well, we'll win our share of games," said Román. "The only team that can beat us is us."
