Sharks Rally Late to Nip Gold
|
The Johannesburg Gold wasted an inspired, 7-inning effort from starter Stephen Clulow, Jr., falling, 2-1, to the Sydney Sharks at Golden Palace. Chung Chan picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-2. Bill Wallace, who leads the GBC ASAO in holds with 15, was tagged with the loss. Edgardo Reyes wrapped it up, recording his 19th save.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for José Ramos? The 30-year old second baseman Ramos stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Sydney up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Scoring was at a premium tonight," Ramos said.
The Sharks are now 88-70, while the Gold fall to 88-70.
