The Des Moines Kernels beat the Long Beach Surfers, 10-0, at Kid Krauss's Kum & Go Kourtyard. The Kernels got a fine performance from left fielder Ken'ichi Okubo, who went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Steven Clayton, the winner, improved to 13-4. He held Long Beach to no runs on 3 hits over 5.1 innings, while racking up 9 strikeouts. The win for the Kernels raised their record to 63-43.

Early in the game, Okubo had a grand slam home run for Des Moines. It was his 21st home run of the season and put the Kernels on top, 4-0.

Said losing manager Mike Ellis: "The list goes on and on of things we just flat out didn't do."
