The Hawaii Tropics faced a tough opponent in Sacramento pitcher Jamie Barber, but did just enough to pull out the victory at ‘Iolani Palace by a final score of 5-2. Barber went 5.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. The win makes Hawaii 63-50.

The Mad Popes had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Tropics going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 30-year old right fielder Vincente Méndez came to the plate. Méndez hit a solo home run on a 0-1 circle change from Sacramento hurler Jamie Barber. It was Méndez's 12th home run of the year.

"Solid game, solid win tonight," said a smiling Méndez.
