Black Sox Lose By a Run at Nashville
|
Nashville and Chicago duked it out and the Bluebirds came out victorious.
In a well-pitched game between the Nashville Bluebirds and the Chicago Black Sox, pitcher Jim Ploughman was superb. The Nashville left-hander helped his team win, 2-1. Ploughman, the winner, moves to 18-1. He threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 1 walk. Giustino Modica, credited with the save, is now 15 for 17 in save opportunities.
Francisco Calderón had a big run-scoring double for the Bluebirds in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Nashville leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a sinker from Stevie Bodine, who finished 4th in the FL in innings pitched with 199.2 in 2059, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 35th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bluebirds ahead, 2-0.
Nashville manager Brent Ross called it "a good, solid win."
The first-place Bluebirds, at 79-35, now lead their division by 5½ games.
