The Phoenix Talons beat the Austin Shredders, 6-1, at Denny's Paul D. Lunn Memorial Stadium Presented By Subaru. Starting pitcher Nick Rivers was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Phoenix, at 49-67, sits in last place in the Johnson League Frontier Division.
The Talons got a big at-bat from first baseman G'Tuda Choppa. For the game, Choppa went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 33rd double of the season gave Phoenix a 2-0 lead.
"We put our best foot forward tonight," said a smiling Choppa.
