Bluebirds Topple Kernels, 4-1

The Nashville Bluebirds stifled the Des Moines Kernels, 4-1, at Les Paul Field. Alfonso Gonzáles, who leads the FL in bases on balls with 77, had his hitting cap on. He was 3-4 with a home run and a triple, while scoring 2 for Nashville. Walt Thomas closed the game out for Nashville, earning his 1st save. The loss makes Des Moines 64-52.
Fernando Sánchez had a big run-scoring double for the Bluebirds in the bottom of the third inning. With Nashville leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he got a curveball from 30-year old right-handed pitcher Ken Haworth and swatted a double to left. It was his 14th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Bluebirds ahead, 3-1.
"We've got a great group of guys," Sánchez said, "and we're having fun right now."
