River Monsters Advance to Cartwright Cup
|
The fans in Twin Cities are delirious, while there is little joy to be found in Sacramento.
The Twin Cities River Monsters finished off the Sacramento Mad Popes 2-1 in the deciding game of the Doubleday Series played at The Basilica at Muskrat Slough.
They took the series 4-3 and will now head to the Cartwright Cup.
For his standout play, Twin Cities catcher Mathew Malone was voted the series' Most Valuable Player.
He batted .414, drove in 12 runs and scored 8 to lead his club to victory.
"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Malone and that doomed us," said Mad Popes manager Fernando Pacheco. "Hats off to Twin Cities, though. That was a great series."
The Twin Cities River Monsters will play against the Nashville Bluebirds in the next round. Nashville won their series against the Hawaii Tropics 4 games to 2. The Cartwright Cup is scheduled to begin on October 17th , 2062.
